What to Say to Yourself When Healing Feels Slower Than You Want
Healing is rarely linear, and almost never as fast as you wish it would be. A few quiet sentences for the slow days.
Healing is rarely linear, and almost never as fast as you wish it would be.
There is a particular kind of tired that comes with healing. It does not show up in your body the way exhaustion does. It shows up in your patience with yourself.
You start asking quiet questions. Why is this taking so long. Why does the same thing still hurt. Why am I not over it yet.
If you are asking those questions, you are not failing. You are in the middle of the deepest part.
Why Healing Feels Slow
Healing feels slow because it is rebuilding something the world wants you to skip.
It is teaching your nervous system that you are safe in places it used to brace. It is loosening patterns you built when you were doing your best to survive.
That work is invisible. And invisible work always feels slower than it actually is.
What to Say When the Doubt Comes In
- I am not stuck. I am still in the middle.
- Slow does not mean wrong.
- I am healing things that other people pretend not to see.
- My progress does not have to be visible to count.
- I am allowed to take this at the pace I can sustain.
- I am still growing, even when nothing on the outside changes.
- This season is part of me, not a punishment.
How to Be With Yourself in the Slow Part
You do not have to fix the slow part. You just have to keep yourself company in it.
That looks like staying soft when you want to be hard. Going to bed earlier. Saying no to the friend who drains you. Drinking water. Sitting outside for ten minutes. Reading something kind.
None of that is dramatic. All of it adds up.
A Mug for the Quiet Days
Some objects in your home do quiet emotional work without being asked. The mug you reach for first. The one that has been with you through more than one season.
The I Bloom in Stillness Mug was made for the slow part of healing. A reminder that even the quiet days are doing something.
What to Take With You
You are not behind on your healing. You are doing it.
That counts. Even on the days nothing seems to change.
With love,
